Week 34: Weird Things

A funny thing happened this week. At my Friday appointment, the baby was head down. By Monday, she was head up, and then by Friday, head down again. She’s a mover and shaker!

The other weird thing that happened this week was that during my NST, I had two contractions about 12 minutes apart. Or so the monitor says. I didn’t feel them at all. And my OB reassured me that if I am not feeling them, there’s nothing to worry about.

I know that Braxton-Hicks contractions are practice labor contractions, and I have been getting those a bit more frequently. Maybe 2-3 times a week now. But an actual contraction, I have no idea what that feels like. But all my doctors have assured me that if I get one, I will know.

This makes me think of a time when one of my friends came to San Diego to visit. We went to some restaurant that had a chicken wing roulette platter. There was one super hot wing among the chicken wings served to us (like ghost pepper hot). As we shared the platter and ate, everyone kept saying, “Oh, mine is spicy. I think I got it.” And our waiter was like, “No. When you get it, you will know.” Eventually, someone got it. And yeah, he knew. He just got up and left the table.

So I guess that is something hot wings and contractions have in common: you’ll know when it happens.

Other weird things are happening this week; I have many strange dreams. Not scary ones. Just weird. Like Chef Bobby Flay being our mailman and hitting on me. Or getting into a fistfight with one of my girlfriends because we disagreed on the interpretation of the ending of an Idris Elba movie. Weird right? And apparently, wacky dreams are totally normal at this point!

And although I don’t keep up with these things, the baby is the size of a Tickle Me Elmo this week. Which reminds me that I should buy one for her. Remember when those things were selling like hotcakes?
