Week 30: Baby Face

Technology is a hell of a thing.

This week we saw our baby’s face for the first time. How? Shout out to Heather, our ultrasound tech, who went in for a 3D photo and nailed it.

Apparently, these 3D photos are a composite of 2D images taken and rendered, so God knows how accurate they are, but she has a face! And cheeks! And lips! And they are so cute, and I can’t wait to kiss them all!

Up until now, we had only seen profile photos in the ultrasounds. And like all our babies before, she had my nose, and we suspect she has Nick’s feet. All of our babies seemed to have large feet, which they get from their size 13 Dad. At 25 weeks, I asked for her feet to be measured, and they were already 2 inches long. I don’t know if that’s average, but it seemed big for a person that’s only 14″ tall. But what do I know?

Seeing her face was kind of a tearjerker because, let’s be honest, almost all babies look similar on ultrasounds – just black and gray profiles with some slight differences in nose and lip shapes. But this time, seeing a face – well, that seemed more unique. More distinctive. How much will she look like that photo when she gets here? I’m not sure. But either way, we can’t wait to see!
